Re: Forum Sluggishness

Thanks for taking care of that back then.

I don't know myself if it was hacked, but the bots were posting lots of spam and probably unsafe links on the forums.

Guess we'll have to see if Gunter knows anything about that.

We have rededicated and renamed "The Wind Tunnels" in your honor. They shall henceforth be known as "A Series of Tubes"

Players will likewise be known as packets.

Re: Quake 1 Mapping Lessons in 2016

Lesser-Known NetRadiant KeyBoard Shortcuts For Novices: I'll edit this post to include the best keyboard shortcuts that I discover. (By the way, keys can be rebound by going to Help->Shortcuts list, but this shortcut editor kinda sucks, and won't always warn you about key re-use. It also may requir...

Re: Quake 1 Mapping Lessons in 2016

Bad Surface Extents (a case study): I was using a large texture that was stretched out on a wide, flat brush (stretched more along the horizontal than the vertical) by the "Fit" function in NetRadiant's surface inspector ("S"). If I used "Fit" (to brush) it would give ...

Quake 1 Mapping Lessons in 2016

I'm just gonna use this thread as a dumping ground for some things I've learned while trying to design my Halloween level. #1: For world texture transparency, turning a brush into a func_wall and setting an "alpha" key to a value between 0 and 1 (like 0.5) is a decent method for singleplay...

Re: Halloween

All these image hosting services eventually delete your stuff or fail. It's pathetic.

It's too bad they couldn't have been hosted by the forum itself. Ah well.

Well, maybe it wasn't Duke, and maybe it was Operation Bayshield. Oh well.

Re: Required Viewing

Nah. It's just been almost 20 years.

I don't remember being overly impressed with Blahbalicious.

And I do remember the first quake machinima I watched featured Duke Nukem talking about girly-men or something.

So there!

Re: Required Viewing

Is Apartment Huntin' the one where you meet a certain tough-talking guy from another 3-D PC game?

I vaguely remember Blahbalicious. I'm guessing the humor doesn't hold up? :P

Re: DOPA Doh!

Cool. I got the maps installed. Btw, proquake 3.90 server (linux) doesn't seem to have external .ENT file loading. But you could still import an .ENT file into each of DOPA's .BSP files. Should be a server-side solution with no need to get the modified maps to everyone. Anyhow, just a thought in cas...

Heh. I added that option. Now the votes are gone.

Re: DOPA Doh!

Who knows if this old (DOS?) program will run for you. Might need a DOS box:

Actually, QuArK might do it. Or some modern pak file explorer.
