How to Connect to Server When DNS is Down

In case the IP redirect/DNS thing (fvf.servequake.com) ever stops working again, you can try connecting directly to the server IP:

204.210.185.60

(instead of fvf.servequake.com)

EDIT: And now you should also be able to use:

fvf.fvfonline.com

Well, I sent a couple emails to Polarite back in November, but I never heard back from him.... So I don't know what's up with him or the free DNS thing. I assume that if the free DNS isn't renewed after a month or two, it would be released and I could re-grab it for myself and set it up, but every time I try to re-grab it, no-ip.com tells me it's already taken.

I'd also be worried that if the server ever had issues I couldn't get a hold of Polarite to see what was up... but the server seems to be chugging along just fine.though mostly unused. We did have a game a couple weeks ago, and I saw Armaphage on there last week -- he just got Quake re-installed.


By the way, there is this handy Quake Notify Android app that will notify you when someone is on a server. I have it check every 15 minutes. Someone at Quakeone posted it, and it's now available on Google Play (much like my Pogo Piggle games! ). See here: http://quakeone.com/forum/quake-talk/qu ... ver-notify

And finally, I got around to figuring out how to set up a DNS redirect from the Cpanel, so now you can connect to the server with:

fvf.fvfonline.com


So yeah, do that.

Hah, and then a few days later I try again to reclaim the fvf.servequake.com redirect, and it has finally been released from lack of use, heh, so it let me have it back.

So, that works again....

It's this free service that I have to confirm every month (no-ip.com). Sometimes I forget to do it on time.

If I ever keel over and don't update it for a month, then after another month I think anyone could claim "fvf.servequake.com" and point it wherever they want.
