Is it worth the trouble

Post by Lord Ed »

Hey all. I played FVF from about 1996 to 1999/2000 as Lord Ed. I was a member of BS, and I later headed BSX, the merged BS and X clans. I helped run a 1v1 tournament and a clan tournament during that time on the servers Maz was hosting.

If people are still playing periodically, I'd go through the trouble of downloading everything and getting it up and running.

But, the lack of activity on the forum seems to suggest that the community is not all that active.

What's the story?

Indeed the server is not very active..... There's not a lot left of the Quake community as a whole, but it still lingers on.

We had a set time for people to come play FvF, on Sunday night around 7 PM Central, but I don't think anyone has been showing up for that for quite a while.

If I happened to see anyone on the server, I would join and play. Hanging around on the server might cause other people tho show up....

Getting Quake running is not that difficult though. All you really need are the PAK files, then get a modern Quake client like Mark V (though there are many optional downloads to make everything look better -- there are links in the Download section of the front page).

I might show up Sunday, but uh, new maps or something would really motivate me. Kinda extremely uninterested in it otherwise.

Thanks for your candor. I came to the conclusion that most shooters are the same. This one was the best that I ever played. I'll remember it fondly.

Tell you what, dude. I'll show up today (Sunday) at 7pm central, if at all possible.

Then others will probably show too (or at least Gunter).

Cool?

Note that the DNS is still down, so you'll have to use the IP address to connect: 45.32.1.41

I e-mailed Polarite last week, and again on Friday, but have heard nothing back... so I don't know what's up with that.

Are those technical issues fixed now btw? Do you guys still play?

Are you an actual person, or yet another spammer bumping old topics so you can later try to sneak in casino links?
... I don't know why spammers want to bother trying and spam such a dead forum....

There aren't a lot of players, but the server should be running at fvf.servequake.com
I use an android app that notifies me when someone connects, so I usually check in if someone is online.

Ya know, I was just thinking about good old FvF. I'd be interested in it again!

Well.... I don't check the forum very often either... but the server is still running. Obviously not many players, but every now and then we get one. I use an android app called Quake Notify which keeps a check on the server and beeps if someone connects. That's about the only way tou can catch someone playing, so I usually join when I see someone.

connect fvf.servequake.com
